Stroke Research Highlight: HMGB1’s Role in Ischemic Stroke

Several recent researches showed that HMGB1 is involved in causing ischemic stroke by ehnancing inflammation and tissue damage in cerebrovascular diseases.
It has been demostrated the use of responsive polymer-drug, inhibiting HMGB1, conjugate nanoparticles improve the therapeutic effect of stroke.
Moreover, a recent research found an association between HMGB1 gene variants and stroke susceptibility. Relevant risk factors for ischemic stroke, such as genetic ones, still remain unexplored, but this suggest that HMGB1 gene variants may be useful as potential markers for first and secondary stroke prevention.
